Last Update: 19 August 2014 (53, E1, 54, 9, 112, 286 updated)
This page indexes all the pictures on the site, with the latest photos and recently updated pages at the top – so, if you check in regularly, you can just look through the first few pictures to see what's new. If you want to find a particular route check on the operational details page and click on the bus type for the route, if available. There is also a clickable map to allow you to select photos for a particular area.
Hover your mouse over the thumbnail for a caption (may not work in some older or non-standard browsers), and click on it to open a page containing a larger version of the picture.
There is comprehensive navigation and cross-referencing through the gallery at the foot of each page: you can browse through routes in the order they were added to the site, or in route number order, as well as jumping to other routes of interest.
These pages are not necessarily meant to be detailed or exhaustive accounts about routes, just a collection of observations and facts that I think may be of interest to the reader; please don’t treat this as a reference source! For more mundane/technical facts I suggest you look elsewhere – I recommend two sites, both called London Bus Routes: the companion to this site www.londonbusroutes.net details the current situation while www.londonbuses.co.uk has lots of historical information.
This gallery depends largely on readers’ contributions as I do not personally have time to do much bus photography. If you have access to a scanner or digital camera, and would like to contribute – especially if you can fulfil any of the requests below – see the foot of the page. I have a film scanner, so you can send negatives or slides in the post if you prefer. Contributions of background information are also welcome, as there is a limit to what I know or can readily research when writing a page.
Wanted for completeness, to complement other photos already in stock and/or to update pages: Dart/Esteem on S4; Versa on 296; E20D on R4; VWL on 661 (or other suitable up-to-date picture); WVL on 129; E40H on 122; LT on 8; E400 on 372; E40D/E40H on C3; SP on 281; Scania on 651, 674.

Wylde 1998), and numerous others whom I cannot trace. I have also made some use of London Bus Routes by Ian Armstrong, with his agreement.
... are very welcome, please send in your JPGs to robert @ londonbusroutes . net (remove the spaces!). It cuts both ways, as (a) it makes this site more interesting (b) non-webmasters get a chance to publish photos on the web. Provided you provide it, your name will be credited. Please note: photos should be your own. Photos are automatically copyrighted and it is therefore illegal to send someone else’s photos as if they were yours – and there are potentially serious consequences. If you want to submit photographs from other sources, obtain their permission first, and make the source clear when you send them.
As this is a site about London bus routes, I would be looking for photos of buses on LBSL routes (including night buses, school routes and LLSA routes e.g. the 84 in Barnet), showing vehicles that are likely to be found on the route. The photos do not need to be recent, as long as they could have been taken last week: so they should show the current vehicle type and livery, and in a location currently served by the route.
I do not want:
Please take a look at some of the pages that have already been created to get a feel for what is wanted. Also, if I already have a comprehensive selection of photos for a particular route then I am unlikely to want more! In many cases a "comprehensive selection" will be just 1.
I will not completely rule out historical photos – but remember that this site is primarily supposed to illustrate the contemporary scene, so I will only include old photos if they illustrate an interesting or significant historical point about the route in question (e.g. double deckers in the Blackwall Tunnel on the 108), and they will probably not be full size.
I would be particularly keen on photos taken on route (as opposed to the terminus), so for example 168s coming down Haverstock Hill, 96s arriving at Bluewater, or H37s squeezing under St. John's Railway Bridge – anywhere that characterises the route. Remember that this is a site about London bus routes, not about buses exactly, and to that end the bus need not be too large in the frame! However I will consider anything I receive.
Please supply the date and location if possible; any other topical information that can be incorporated into the caption will also be welcome.
Please specify if you would like a watermark added, either in a corner or over part of the bus for extra security; alternatively, feel free to add your own, but bear in mind that photos may be resized or (occasionally) cropped. Please note that by submitting photos you are consenting to their being used, and I may not be able to remove photos after publication.
