Another recent new route for London is the 332, which commenced on 13 October 2007. In some respects it is a bit of a non-route, since most of it either replaces or parallels existing services. From Brent Cross as far as Kilburn it replaced route 316, which was shortened to start from Cricklwood garage in view of a planned extension at the other end. It then continues down Edgware Road before diving off to Paddington – a potentially useful local link, especially for anyone travelling on the Heathrow Express. The service had to start on diversion as the left turn from Praed Street into Edgware Road was banned, leading to a detour via Chapel Street. At Paddington, the route has taken over the stand formerly used by route 15, which was extended to Paddington Basin from the same date.
Any logic behind the choice of route number is not obvious, although it does lead to the quirk that Cricklewood Broadway is now served by routes 16, 32, 316 and 332; 32 is twice 16, of course! The new route was specified with new buses and Metroline have more of the increasingly familiar TE class Enviro400s, such as TE839 (LK57 AKU) in Kilburn High Road on 10 June 2008.
